From the Pastor's Desk March 2013

I have concluded that everything we do, we do out of love….love for God, love for self or love for others.

JD Greear, in Gospel writes: There is nothing you can do to make God love you more, and nothing you have done to make Him love you less.” What a beautiful reminder of the gospel. We are saved by grace and therefore don’t have to live by the law to remain in the Father’s love.

I have spent lots of time thinking about those words of JD. We are secure in Christ – nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:38-39) and “no one can snatch us from the Father’s hand” (John 10:28-29). If we are saved in Christ then we are secure in Christ. But if all this is true, what keeps believers from a life of license (sin) rather than a life of righteousness and piety, since the Father’s love will never change no matter what we do? I think that we can find the answer in the words of Jesus to the women caught in the act of adultery (John 8). After Jesus told her that He did not condemn her He told her to go and sin no more. Because we have been forgiven of a great debt of sin, because we have been given something that we could never gain on our own, out of gratitude, we live in His grace a life that brings Him glory.

Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep my commandments.” The Apostle Paul, who encouraged us to follow his own example said, “The love of Christ compels me.”  Changed by the gospel we live in the grace of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. We do it for the One we love.

What does your life say about who you love most? I hope you will spend some time thinking about that.  Bro. Keith
