From the Pastor´s Desk January 2010

From the Pastor's Desk

There are so many things that I want to say in this month’s newsletter.  One is the challenge of reaching our community for Christ.  As you already know, we are no longer in the age when all we have to do to get a crowd in the building is to offer an invitation.  We must change our “ya’ll come” mentality to one that is more Biblical.  Jesus said “go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in.” But remember Jesus was talking about the kingdom of heaven, not the church building.  So how do we reach people that are resistant to the gospel?  The same way that the Lord reached Saul of Tarsus...the Spirit of God touched his life.  If we want the Lord to open doors for us to reach our community we must petition the Father for the lives of the lost.  We must pray from hearts that are burdened for the lost, from hearts that are broken because if they live their entire lives without Jesus then they will face an eternity without Him as well.  I believe that God desires us to spend time praying together for our community.  This will be a big part of what we do when we begin our Sunday night services in January.  We will have preaching and we will sing as well.  But we will also spend significant time in prayer for our community, as well as for each other, the ministries of our church and for the work of our missionaries around the world.

If we are going to reach families for Christ, they need to know that we will love and provide solid Biblical teaching. And when families begin looking for a church, they want to know what there is for their kids.  Our challenge is to have a comprehensive ministry for children and youth.  Our ministries team is working to prepare for this year.  Our children’s ministry requires that we have people to work. We need you to volunteer if you have not already done so.  Also we ask that you attend an informational meeting for all adults regarding our children’s ministry.  It will be Sunday, Jan. 3 and 10 at 9:15.  (Teachers, go ahead and plan to teach your classes as this will not take the whole time.)

Families also want a youth ministry that will help their kids to grow and be able to face the challenges of today.  We are in the process of searching for God’s man to lead our youth.  Pray for our Youth Minister Search Committee, for our youth and for Mike and Jeanie who are so gracious to lead in the interim.

Another exciting thing for January: Brad Utley is starting a new adult SS class. We will provide for those who are not working that week in our children’s ministry as well as new families and guests. They will be studying books of the Bible beginning with 1 Corinthians. Our community groups will continue to meet on Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings as well.

Once again, I thank you for your generosity – to me and my family and to the many families that we were able to help for Christmas.  We provided food baskets and Christmas gifts to a total of four families.
