From the Pastor's Desk- April 2012

From the Pastor’s Desk – April 2012

At a recent Pastor’s Conference our speaker said that in his opinion there are more wrong theologies that come out of Tulsa than anywhere else in the world.  What he said is true.  There are so many false doctrines that come from here....many that have to do with faith. For instance, they say that if you have enough faith you will not be sick, or your budget will never get out of whack or if you only have enough faith you can have a Cadillac in your driveway. We all know that this is not true. It is false doctrine – it is heresy. There are others that are more subtle and one that I want to focus on: God will never tell you to do something that will make you feel uncomfortable. The truth is that God OFTEN tells of us to do what makes us feel uncomfortable. In Scripture God told Hosea to marry a prostitute. He told Noah to build a boat hundreds of miles from the nearest body of water – in an arid land, and in a place where it had never rained. He told Abraham to leave his extended family (and possibly his wealth) and follow Him ‘to a place He would should him’. Later, in his old age, Abraham was told to take his son up on the mountain to sacrifice him to the Lord. I am sure that Hosea, Noah and Abraham were all quite uncomfortable with what God told them to do, and yet by faith in God they were obedient.

God often tells us to do things that make us uncomfortable. But when He tells you to do what makes you uncomfortable He always says “trust Me” and that He will always go with you, even when that means to tell someone about what Jesus means to you, or to talk to someone who needs a friend or to encourage someone whose faith is fragile or to help someone in need. We can trust Him by faith.

Why would the Lord ask you to do what makes you uneasy? Because He wants to use you to reach others for Christ. Because he wants to be glorified in your life. Because He wants to bless you through your obedience to Him.

During these next few weeks as we continue the Ezekiel Project and participate in our Lay Renewal Weekend, God may speak to you about doing what makes you feel uncomfortable.  I encourage you to say, Lord, I know that I cannot do this on my own and I am fearful about doing it, but with your help I will be obedient.  And God will bless you and use you in ways that you never imagined.

I am praying for you.  Keith
