From the Pastor's Desk - November 2012

From the Pastor’s Desk - With Josh’s resignation we will be again searching for a staff member that will serve our church in the area of youth ministry. As your pastor I would like to ask a few things of you. First, begin praying with me about the man who will lead our youth ministry. We need the Lord’s wisdom and leadership as we seek His man for our church. Secondly, we will be soon electing a search committee to fill our staff position. Would you please pray with me about the composition this committee? And lastly, pray for Jordan and Cara Sheffler who will be leading our youth in the interim.  I have asked Jordan to share his heart about the youth ministry. Here is his article:

We Shouldn’t Be The Ones - As I thought about being the interim for the youth pastor there were several things that kept running through my head.  I made a list of the reasons that we shouldn’t be taking over.  The more I prayed about it the more things started to fall into place.  I wanted to share just a few of the things I told myself to try to rationalize us saying no.

  1. We don’t have the time.

  2. We don’t bring enough experience to help the youth grow spiritually.

  3. Our past isn’t perfect.

Running these ideas through my head over and over almost had me convinced not to accept the opportunity.  I started to pray about where God wants me to go.  I started to listen to sermons on my phone while at work.  I started reading my bible heavily to find answers.  After a couple weeks of this I was assured that this was where God wanted us.
First of all, how could we not have the time?  That’s telling God we are too busy to teach people about him.  We don’t know how long we have on this earth and not using every minute to progress the Kingdom of God would mean we failed in our walk with Christ.  Next, why would I think that Jesus needs anything?  Jesus took a child’s lunch and fed an army of people.  God will take the little that we have to offer and will make sure that everyone is spiritually fed.  And last, who am I to tell God that he shouldn’t use me because I haven’t been perfect.  Paul, a murderer of Christians, became one of the greatest prophets of the Bible.  God often uses the most unlikely people in the most amazing ways.

And this note from the Shefflers: Cara and I are pleased to help in any way we can including helping the youth transition to a new youth minister.  We plan on keeping things fresh and fun for the youth, and we can’t wait to see them grow in Christ.  Keep us in your prayers.           Jordan and Carolyn Sheffler
