From the Pastor's Desk - June 2015

From the Pastor’s Desk – I don’t know about you but I love the month of June! Why? Vacation Bible School, Falls Creek and Children’s Camp!  June is one of the busiest months of our church year but also one of the best opportunities we have as a church for reaching lives for Christ.  Would you please stop now and pray for every family we will touch through VBS, Falls Creek and Children’s Camp.  Now that you have prayed today, would you commit to praying every day during the month of June for these vital ministries? And then, would you pray as we do follow-up for all those who will make decisions at VBS or one of our camps? We are making disciples for Jesus one person at a time.

Discipleship: One of the concerns that I have for the Church (not just LLBC) is that there are so many Christians who have never led anyone to faith in Christ nor are they able to help someone else grow to maturity.  One reason is that too many Christians have never had anyone spend time with them regularly to help them become a mature disciple of Jesus. My desire is to see everyone in the church grow to maturity in Christ, but that will not happen without an intentional, reproducible plan, or an intentional leader. It has been proven that the best way to grow to maturity in Christ is to be part a group of believers who will encourage one another, pray for one another and stand with each other in all of life’s challenges.

During our Leadership Summit we gathered to discuss how we can become a church that makes disciples. Among other things we approved a VISION STATEMENT: Making Disciples for Jesus One Person at a Time.  We believe that it is God’s will that we place a priority on making disciples (Great Commission Matt. 28:19-20).  We want this to become more than a slogan or something on our marquee and website. We hope that this will become our battle cry, something that we will be unified in, and something that we will all strive to do!  How will we do it? Our MISSION STATEMENT puts feet to our vision: “Creating biblical disciples in relational environments,” based on Acts 2:2-17. Our goal is to make disciples of Jesus who are able to make more disciples.  What will that look like?  We know that it will include small groups: both Sunday School classes and community groups.  We know that it will need to be a process that is biblically based and will help everyone learn how to make disciples, even those who have never done anything like this before.  Pray for us as we continue working on our plan.  If you want to help in our planning, our next meeting is Saturday, July 11 at 10 am.  Keith
