From the Pastor's Desk - December 2014

From the Pastor’s Desk – As I write this we are less than a month away from Christmas.  Already Black Friday sales have begun, people are busy trying to get decorations up for Christmas and holiday plans are being made (I’ve even got Christmas music going on Pandora this afternoon). We get so busy getting ready for Christmas that sometimes we forget that the greatest gift of Christmas is Jesus.  From the time of Creation the Lord knew that He would one day send His Son to redeem us from our slavery to sin. There are several prophecies in Scripture about Jesus coming:

Genesis 3 tells us that the seed of the woman (Jesus) will crush the head of the serpent (Satan).

In Isaiah we are told that a virgin will give birth and bear a Son and He shall be called Immanuel, Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace.

Micah tells us that He will be born in Bethlehem, the city of David.

To Mary the angel Gabriel said: Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name JESUS.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end. Mary asked the angel, "How can this be, since I have not been intimate with a man?" The angel replied to her: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:30-35 HCSB)

And to Joseph an angel said: "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel,  which is translated "God is with us." (Matthew 1:20-23 HCSB)

John wrote: The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

As you begin the month of December with all its hustle and bustle, remember that the greatest gift of Christmas is God’s gift to us: Jesus.  Pastor Keith
