From the Pastor's Desk - December 2012

From the Pastor’s Desk – “It’s the most wonderful time of the year....” It is that time of year that we celebrate the greatest gift ever given – when the Son of God left His glory and came to be born in a humble stable in the city of Bethlehem. He is Immanuel, ‘God with us’. His name is Jesus – which means savior, or deliverer, appropriate for one who came to set His people free from their sins.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year....” for 48 years Andy Williams sang those words to this beautiful song. What if he had known on Christmas 2011 that he would never see another Christmas? Would he done anything differently?

What if you knew that this would be your last Christmas? How would it affect the way you live? Would you be like the character in a recent movie who thought she only had a short time to live and decided to spend her last days in the lap of luxury? Or would you be like German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer who before he was executed by the Nazis during WWII spent his last day preaching to fellow inmates and praying, entirely submissive to the will of God. Would you be like the Apostle Paul, who while in a Roman prison awaiting his execution wrote, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. (2 Tim 4:6-7)

The thing is, we don’t know what the future brings. James wrote, “You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” We don’t have the promise of tomorrow, we only have today. I want to encourage you to live each day as if it is your last and to live it to bring glory to Christ.  I want to encourage you to have the attitude of Joshua: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” And may you live that way for many more Christmases. I love you. Bro. Keith
