From the Pastor´s Desk October 2010

This past Sunday night I preached from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and the enemies of revival.  2 Chron. 7:14 says, “[If] My people, which are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  God’s conditional promise is that He will send His revival if His conditions are met. But too often in the church we see just the opposite.  We see:

·        Pride

·        Prayerlessness

·        Priorities that are out of whack

·        Presuming upon God

God says “if my people will humble themselves.  Pride is the opposite of humility.  Pride says, “I do not need God, I can make my own way.  I know best.  I call the shots in my life.” We demonstrate this attitude when we do not read the Bible.  We are saying, “God, I can make it without your advice.”  We are prideful when we don’t attend worship. We are saying that other things are more important than God. We are prideful when we fail to fellowship with other believers. We are saying that we don’t need God’s people.
God says “if my people will pray”.  Prayerlessness, like pride, says “I do not need to call on the Lord; I can make it just fine without His aid.”  Prayerlessness does not say, “He is all I need.”  Prayerlessness relies on self and the resources self can produce and refuses to lean on Jesus alone.
God says “if my people will seek His face”.  Seeking God’s face means that we hunger for Him more than for what He can do.  Far too many people are caught up in what God can do for them.  We have the wrong priority when we do not see the Lord and His righteousness first.
God says “if my people will turn from their wicked ways.”  That means to forsake our sins and embrace holiness.  The problem in that we say that we love the Lord with all our heart but we live like we don’t.  Too many have the attitude that they can do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. Jesus saved to make us holy.  We presume upon God when we trust Him for eternal life, but not for our daily life.
God desires to send revival to LLBC. But first we must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and repent of our sin.  Join with me in praying for revival.
