From the Pastor's Desk - July 2015

From the Pastor’s Desk – As I write this I am reflecting back on the whirlwind of the last three weeks with VBS, Falls Creek and Children’s Camp.  What a blessing to be a part of a church that loves kids and desires that they learn about Jesus.  I ask that you continue to pray for all those we have touched in the last three weeks and for those who will be reached because of the changes in our kids.  And please continue to pray for the 12-15 youth who will be going on our mission trip to Green Country Camp to provide recreation and missions and to serve in other ways as needed. Pray for Cara Sheffler and I as we go as sponsors. Pray that they grow in Christ this week as well.I also want to thank all who worked in VBS and provided cookies, or were cooks or sponsors at Falls Creek and Children’s Camp. And thank you also for those who generously gave so that our kids could go to camp. Without you we could not do ministry to so many.

I wanted to address the ruling of the Supreme Court on same-sex marriage.  While we are legally safe (for now) as a church to not face repercussions for not holding weddings for same sex couples, there are other issues that I want to address.  In an article entitled “What The Bible Says About Homosexuality” Ben Bach shares some truths from God’s Word:

  • Everyone Is Tempted With Sin
  • Homosexuality is sin and the remedy for sin is the blood of Jesus Christ
  • No One Is Born A Homosexual - God never created a ‘gay’ baby. Since homosexuality is a sin, it would be contradictory to God’s nature to cause someone to be born with that sexual orientation.
  • Jesus Taught That Marriage Is Between A Man And A Woman
  • God’s Law Trumps Man’s Law
  • To Approve Of Homosexuality Is To Be Guilty Of Homosexuality - to approve of homosexuality is to be guilty of the sin itself. “Though they knew God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them” (Rom. 1:32)
  • True Hatred Is Refusing To Confront Sin
  • Christians Need To Approach Homosexuals With The Spirit of Christ - Whenever we meet someone who wrestles with homosexuality, we need to respond to him or her as Jesus would. When the crowd came to Jesus, Matthew reports that He reacted with “compassion for them” (Matt. 9:35-38). When the rich young ruler came to Him (and Jesus knew the man had a spiritual heart problem), Jesus “looked at him and loved him” (Mark 10:21).  Let’s treat homosexuality like Jesus did: Let’s hate sin, but be compassionate toward people who are living in sin. Let’s encourage people who are fighting sin. Let’s love people enough to expose sin. Let’s rescue people from the bondage of sin and lead them to the loving arms of Christ.
