What is Christmas? For many, it has become a time of shopping and busyness as we try to squeeze in all of the activities and parties and decorating and cooking and family get-togethers. For others, especially this year when experts say that our economy is bad, it is the time of year that they worry how will they buy the presents for the children and pay bills keep food on the table. Shouldn’t Christmas be more than all that? How have we come from a celebration of God’s gift to a lost world to the most commercial (and can I saw most worldly) holiday of the year? This is the time of year that we ought to be most thankful as we remember “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” My prayer for you this Christmas is that in our homes, at our work, as we are with family and friends that we remember that Christmas is Christ’s birthday, and that our focus remain on Him. Merry Christmas!
PS: As I think of this time of year I remember all of the years we spent in Brazil and Mexico and the support we received from Southern Baptists as they gave to reach the lost world through the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.   I encourage you to give generously that we may continue to support our missionaries who stand on the front lines of taking the gospel message to those who still haven’t heard. Our goal for this year is $6000.
